Digital Footprints Week 2

My week 2 blog

Today in lesson I learnt about the Digital Footprints and the right that people have when taking photos and posting them online.

Here are some question that i found interesting during the lecture.

Who owns the photos taken by the girl in the video?

The girl owns her photos she took  however depending on the circumstances she does have some rights if the picture is going to be sold.
If an agreement / contract is not made before the photo is taken the individual can take the photographer to court for damages or part of the money made off the selling of the image.

If you are going to sell your photographs or use them for advertising then you will need to have a contract with the girl, it is known sometimes as a model release contract. If its family and you wish to sell the images it would also be a good idea to sort out the particulars. usually most people are not that paranoid but it can help to be safe.

If you take candid (stranger) photos you should not to use them to make money. The exception is with editorial / news work.

What do you understand by the term ‘Digital Footprint’?

On the Internet a digital footprint is the word used to describe the  traces or footprints that people leave online.

This is information or data send out online, such as forum registration, e-mails and attachments, uploading videos or digital images and any other form of transmission of information all of which leaves traces of personal information about yourself available to others online.

For example,

  • Facebook photos  that your friends can see and even download.
  • Photos  that you posted online.
  • Blogs, article or website content that your have written on website such as forum and blogger.

Is it morally and ethically acceptable to forward mail without permission?

It happens all the time. E-mails sent specifically to one person, end up getting forwarded to others. Even though it happens all the time, just like many other misconceptions about the online arena and e-mail, that doesn’t mean that it is good practice.
By forwarding private e-mails to others, you are reflecting a lack of character by betraying the trust of the person whose email you are exposing without their permission.

Social Technology Growing

How social technologies are extending the organization

http://www.flickr.com/photos/f-g/3527327119/

Social Tools and Technologies continue to seep into many organisations by changing business processes and increasing performance. The fifth annual survey carried out by the McKinsey Global Institute finds that companies are targeting and make use of social technologies to enhance their operations and take advantage of new market opportunities.

The key findings of this survey is to found out how the global organisation utilize social technologies and how this benefit their organisation. When adopted at scale across an emerging type of networked enterprise and integrated into the work processes of employees, social technologies can boost a company’s financial performance and market share, respondents say, confirming last year’s survey results.

But this is a very dynamic environment, where the gains from using social technologies sometimes do not persist, perhaps because it takes so much effort to achieve them at scale. Some companies, respondents indicate, reaped fewer benefits and thus became less networked, while a smaller percentage learned how to deploy these technologies to become even more networked. Executives say that their companies are using them to increase their agility and to manage organizational complexity. Many believe that if organizational barriers to the use of social technologies diminish, they could form the core of entirely new business processes that may radically improve performance.

My Week 2 Blog

Tutorial week 2

Today the class was given a few tasks to complete.

Task 1

To create a blog website or page using blogger (Google) Using this online blog, it enables me to post my daily and weeks activity and task carried out in class and outside.
The reason I’m using this blog it because it will help me to keep track and process of my work and task I’m doing.
Also as I’m newly appointed as a project manager I will be posting updates of task and To do things for each group.

What I learned Today

Today I learned about Pbwork which I believe is a great online product for businesses and even small companies or student doing group work. I find this application quite useful for student as it’s interesting and get everyone to involve in their group work.
As I used blogger before for previous work experience in Second year during my degree, I’m feel very familiar with the online blog application. As I mention above blogger is a excellent online application to help students blogging and posting useful resources and information for their team member and also it will allow My Tutor Xristine to follow what I’m working on and my progress.
For the group work I applied as a web developer and project manager, because firstly my main strength is within the web development and I thought I would be an excellent team member for this group work. As project manager, I would consider this as my goal of my career as this is what I would like to become after I graduate from the university. I applied for this position because I would like to offer my skills that i have acquired during my 2 years of experience at university and also would like to gain more knowledge and increase my skills in project managing.
Unfortunately I wasn’t appointed as a web developer but I was lucky to be part of the project managing team which I was very happy with, as I will gain skills from others within the team and express my knowledge of project managing.
I have completed my Pbwork and registered on blogger and logged on to the Forum.
